Carl was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. His interest in art began while attending Cathedral High School. He went on to take art classes at Bellevue University and Metro Tech. As his career evolved, from selling insurance, as a stock broker, then in the construction / remodeling business for fifteen years, Carl gravitated back to his passion of art.
In 1999 Carl made the full-time commitment to his art career, starting at the Hot Shops in the north Omaha Old Market area. In 2003, Carl & his wife, Ellen, moved to Springfield Nebraska and established Weiss Studios and Gardens; transforming 2 acres of farmland into Carl's studios and beautiful gardens to showcase the works of regional artists.
In past years Carl has be involved with the "J Doe" project, "J Doe II", Hotshops Semi annual Arts Festival, Art and Soup, Cathedral Flower and Arts, Monroe Meyer Arts Festival, Rockbrock Arts Festival, Art Unlocked, and also has hosted over ten Weiss Studios and Gardens Arts Festivals. In 2009 Carl help establish the Sarpy Council Arts Council.
